![]() A firewhip is quite possibly the most dangerous fire implement in regular use -- if you fuck up you have over six feet of burning fuel-soaked wick tangled around your body and head. If you are facing into the wind you can end up with a fireball in your face. While this is not quite as dangerous as blowing blasts, which can easliy result in people running around screaming with their faces on fire [Which I have unfortunately seen a few times], there is no implement as likely to burn you. Be careful! No one should use a firewhip without EXTENSIVE practice unlit. People without any prior fire experience are encouraged to learn a different and safer implement first. Firewhips should only be used outside and with a much greater distance than normal from the audience: a 6 foot firewhip can easily throw a fireball 10 feet and can go MUCH farther if there is any wind. It should go without saying that an experienced fire-safety crew is required when performing with a firewhip. This being said, I am obsessed with firewhip. Here is a picture of a few of my firewhips: ![]() The longest is the one on the bottom. It is over 7' from the end of the handle to the tip of the cutting thong. The one on the right is much shorter, just over 4' long and used exclusively for firefetish. The short whip does not have a cutting thong. The whip on the left is a good medium length for tricks and such. It is just over 6'. There is a discussion of firewhip construction in the f.a.q. I find that for big outdoor shows, a 7'-8' whip works best as you can throw absolutely huge fireballs. I much shorter 4' whips on willing submissives in the context of fire fetish. For more discussion sbout firehwips in the context of fire fetish check out the firewhip : fetish section of this website. While it is incredibly dangeorous, using a firewhip is a blast -- literally. When you crack a firewhip the accelerated ripple motion causes fuel to fly off the end of the end of the wick in a fine spray which instantly becomes a blast of flame. If you know what you are doing it can be a huge fireball: ![]() The firewhip can also be manipulated in a number of whip and rope tricks, altough many of the standard whip tricks are insanely dangerous with a firewhip. So if it so dangerous, why use a firewhip? To throw fireballs of course. Seriously though, I have found it to be the most intimate fire experience. With no other implement I know of are you as up close and personal with the fire, and with no other implement is the fire as free. For the fire obsessed, like me this is a beautiful thing. With the intimacy comes danger, but hey, people who want safe hobbys should stick to flower arranging and stamp collecting. Got questions? check out the F.A.Q. |
