This part of the site is where I talk about fire and fire dancing. All human cultures have fire woven deeply into their mythology. Fire is a primal force and impacts people at a deep and fundamental level. Fire triggers instinctive reactions of fear of danger, but fire is also the giver of light and heat, and thus life itself. As such fire can reach beyond people's rational minds and jolt them deep in their subconscious. It is no wonder that some people are obsessed with fire. This obsession with fire is the one thing that unites the fire community. In all other ways the fire community is wonderfully diverse: street performers, professional clowns, computer geeks, hippies, members of the fetish community, Burners, and white collar types [Take me for example: during the day I am an attorney] -- all perfectly normal in the fire community. All of us are fascinated with fire, and this fascination brings us together like few other things could. The best thing about fire performance is not the seasoned veteran who has performed for years. While this person no doubt has remarkable technical skills, I am fascinated by the beginners. I love to watch people who are lighting up for the first time. There is a magic to that first time, and it is clearly reflected in the faces of the first time fire dancer. That look of pure ecstasy cannot be faked.
